Karen Thompson, MD
Dr. Karen Thompson is Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. She is also a pediatric pathologist with Pan Pacific Pathologists, LLC, at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. She completed her medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine followed by pathology residency at Loyola University Medical Center and a pediatric pathology fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital affiliated with Baylor University School of Medicine. After completing her training, she was fortunate to return to her home state of Hawaii to practice.
Dr. Thompson is a Past President of the American Pathology Foundation, prior to which she served two terms on the APF Board of Directors and as Co-Chair of the APF Membership Committee. Dr. Thompson is the current President of the Hawaii Society of Pathologists and participates in the CAP House of Delegates for the State of Hawaii. Dr. Thompson serves as Chair of the Blood Utilization Committee at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, Course Director at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, and Laboratory Director of the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Honolulu. She has participated as a speaker and course director for a number of national pathology meetings.
